Paul Frederick Feiler, "The Stilling of the Storm in Matthew: A Response to Günther Bornkamm," JETS 26 (1983): 399-406.

Feiler argues for a "Christological" and "kingdom" interpretation of the Matthean storm-stilling story against Bornkamm's "difficulties of discipleship" interpretation. He notes that the distinctively Matthean fulfillment formula is the key to how Matthew understood the story, as it focuses our attention on Jesus as the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophetic hope; and that for Matthew, "Jesus’ words and works of deliverance were rooted in the message he continually proclaimed: The kingdom of Heaven has come (4.17)" ("Stilling," 408).
