Robert E. Morosco, "Matthew's Formation of a Commissioning Type-Scene Out of the Story of Jesus' Commissioning of the Twelve," JBL 103
_____(1984): 539-556. **

Morosco argues that Matthew patterned Jesus commission of the twelve (Matt 10) after God's commission of Moses in Exodus 3-4. Matthew edited "dominical sayings" about missions in order to create an intelligable correspondence with an familiar outline from the Old Testament. Matthew's purpose was to stimulate a positive reader response by placing the new Christian mission in line with those God-sanctioned missions of of Moses and other Old Testament figures.

Excellent exegesis. Unrestrained unbelief.
