R. Alan Culpepper, "Mark 10:50: Why Mention the Garment?" JBL 101 (1982): 131-132.

Culpepper argues, on the basis of the garment motif ("chain") which runs throughout Mark (2:21; 5:27-30; 6:56; 9:3; 11:7-8; 13:16; 15:20,24), that the garment is a narrative type representing the old order which Bartimaeus readily disgards to follow Jesus.

Strong on typology, weaker on teleology (the cross to which Bartimaeus follows Jesus)
