Robin Scroggs and Kent I. Groff, "Baptism in Mark: Dying and Rising with Christ," JBL 92 (1973): 531-548.

Scroggs and Groff make the provocative case for the symbolic interpretation of the uniquely Markan "young man," who appears only twice in the second gospel--at 14.51-52 and 16.5. The appearance of the "young man" at 14:51-52 and his reappearance at 16:5 represent dying with Christ and rising with Christ respectively.

The baptism connection, while certainly Pauline, fails to convince me; but the general thesis, I believe, will be borne out by further exegesis.
