Craig A. Evans, "Luke's Use of the Elijah/Elisha Narratives and the Ethic of Election," JBL 106 (1987): 75-83.

Evans seeks to demonstrate the connection between Luke's use of the Elijah/Elisha and his emphasis on the theology of election. In those passages where the allusions to Elijah/Elisha are most evident the theme of election is present, if not dominant. In particular Luke's connection of the Elijah/Elisha tradition and Moses traditions serves to undergird the central travel narrative and provides a smooth transition into that section where the theology ("ethic") of election is developed in a parallel manner.
